AzTU and TAU staff visited the Khojaly genocide monument

On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy, the staff of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) and Turkiye-Azerbaijan University (TAU) visited the Khojaly genocide monument on February 26. Wreaths were laid in front of the genocide monument, and the dear memory of the victims of the tragedy was commemorated with respect. It should be noted that on the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed groups, with the participation of the 366th regiment of the former Soviet army stationed in the city of Khankendi, razed the city of Khojaly to the ground. As a result of another mass massacre committed by the Armenian aggressors against the Azerbaijani people, 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children, and 70 elderly people, were killed with particular cruelty, 1,275 civilians were taken prisoner, and the fate of 150 people is still unknown. As a result of this act of genocide, 8 families were completely destroyed, 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one of their parents.

A commemorative event dedicated to the Khojaly genocide was held at the Turkiye-Azerbaijan University

A memorial event was held at the Turkiye-Azerbaijan University (TAU) on February 26 to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy. The event was attended by the faculty and students of TAU and Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU). First, the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide, as well as the sons of the Motherland who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our lands, was commemorated with a minute of silence. The national anthems of Azerbaijan and Turkiye were played. The moderator of the event, Habib Mirzayev, head of the Department of Humanities at AzTU, said that on the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed groups razed the city of Khojaly to the ground with the participation of the 366th regiment of the former Soviet army located in the city of Khankendi. Speaking later, Umran Uygun, Head of the Food Engineering Program at TAU, and Ahmad Joshar, Head of the Computer Engineering Program, noted that the Khojaly tragedy is one of the most terrible and bloody crimes of humanity. Acting rector of TAU, Vilayat Valiyev, said that the Khojaly tragedy was a genocide committed not only against the Azerbaijani people, but also against humanity as a whole. He noted that as a result of the political will of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev, and the power of our army, the avenging of our martyrs in the 44-day Patriotic War, which was written in golden letters in our history, was achieved. Vilayat Valiyev noted that the Azerbaijani people will never forget the Khojaly genocide.

Opening of the “Water Treatment and Management” Laboratory held at AzTU

On February 25, the official opening ceremony of the “Water Treatment and Management” Laboratory was held under the Department of Chemical Technology, Recycling and Ecology at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU). The event was attended by the Rector of AzTU, Vilayat Valiyev; representatives of “Aqualink” LLC; Zaur Musayev, Head of the Administrative Affairs Division of the Human Resources and Administrative Affairs Department; Paul Girdis, Senior Account Manager for the Middle East, Central Asia and Southeast Europe at Elsevier; as well as other university officials. In his speech at the ceremony, Rector Vilayat Valiyev emphasized the strategic importance of efficient water resource management, improving water quality, and expanding scientific research activities in this field. It was noted that the primary objective of the laboratory is to enhance water treatment technologies, reduce pollution, ensure environmental safety, and develop science-based solutions in this area. Within this framework, contributing to the provision of safe and accessible water resources has been identified as a key priority. The laboratory has been equipped with modern scientific equipment and will support the development of students’ practical knowledge and skills, strengthen research capacity, and train highly qualified specialists. The goal in this direction is to promote quality and inclusive education, implement innovative approaches, and reinforce scientific infrastructure through university–industry collaboration. In his remarks, Zaur Musayev, representing “Aqualink” LLC, noted that cooperation with the university is ongoing and emphasized that expanding joint initiatives will yield significant results in the fields of water resource management and environmental sustainability. Thus, the newly established laboratory will function as an important scientific platform contributing to the achievement of objectives related to water security, the development of quality education, the strengthening of innovation and scientific infrastructure, and the expansion of institutional partnerships.

The opening ceremony of the "FinTech" laboratory was held at AzTU

The opening ceremony of the "FinTech" laboratory (Fintech Lab) was held at the Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) in partnership with the Azerbaijan Fintech Association (AzFina). The opening ceremony was attended by the Rector of AzTU, Vilayat Valiyev; the Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank, Vusal Khalilov; the Head of the Department for Regulation of Payment Services and Payment Systems at the Central Bank, Khayaladdin Taghiyev; the Chairman of the Board of AzFina, Edgar Abdullayev; and representatives of the university. It was noted that the "FinTech Lab" aims to instill practical knowledge in financial technologies in students, train qualified specialists currently needed in the financial technologies market, implement joint projects with payment organizations and electronic money organizations operating in the payment services sector, and support increasing financial literacy in the country. Speaking at the event, the Rector of AzTU, Vilayat Valiyev, highly appreciated this collaboration established with AzFina. Additionally, necessary support will be provided by the Central Bank and AzFina in the formation of potential personnel in the field of economics. It is planned that organizations will offer job opportunities to laboratory participants who are successful during their training.  This initiative directly contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) students Nuray Mustafazadeh and Jahid Dosiyev have become the winners of the 5th scholarship program announced by “AzerGold” CJSC for students in the 2025-2026 academic year. February 21 is celebrated as International Mother Language Day in the world. On this occasion, a literary and artistic event was held at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU).
