A memorial event dedicated to the January 20 tragedy was held at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU). First, the dear memory of the sons of the Motherland who gave their lives for the freedom and sovereignty of our lands was commemorated with a minute of silence. The National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played. The head of the Department of Humanities of AzTU, Habib Mirzayev, said that the events of January 20 were written in the history of the Azerbaijani people as both a tragic and heroic page. 36 years ago - on the night of January 19-20, the brave sons of Azerbaijan sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the Motherland and rose to the peak of martyrdom. Habib Mirzayev said that although many years have passed since the tragedy committed by the Soviet empire in Azerbaijan, our people do not forget that terrible crime. Later, the candidate of historical sciences, associate professor Akif Naghi, spoke about the unparalleled sacrifices of the sons of the Motherland who sacrificed their lives on that bloody night and their invincible will, putting the honor and dignity of the people above all else. It was noted that the dear memory of our martyrs will live forever in the hearts of our people.

The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan has approved new rules ensuring the issuance of state documents on education in a fully electronic format (https://nk.gov.az/az/senedler/qerarlar/tehsil-haqqinda-dovlet-senedlerinin-tesvirlerinin-9253). The adopted decision is aimed at accelerating digitalization in the education system, organizing document circulation based on modern electronic management principles, and significantly increasing the accessibility of services for citizens. According to the new decision, the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 82 dated April 29, 2010 is canceled and new mechanisms in accordance with the principles of digitalization and e-government are applied instead. Thus, diplomas, attestations, certificates and supplements to them for higher, secondary, vocational and general education levels will be formed as legally valid electronic documents. Thus, the process of issuing state documents on education is fully transferred to a digital environment. The main advantages of the new rules: • State documents on education will be formed in electronic format through the “Education Centralized Information System” (TMIS); • Information in educational documents can be submitted and accessed securely through the Electronic Government Information System (EGIS); • Barcodes will be added to documents for all levels of education, ensuring prompt and online verification of their authenticity; • Graduates will be able to access their documents from their electronic cabinets at any time, share them electronically, and print them if necessary; • Issuance, cancellation, and reissuance of duplicates of educational documents will be carried out on the basis of unified, transparent, and fully digital procedures. The rules systematically regulate the content, issuance deadlines, refusals, and legal consequences of state documents for bachelor's, master's, and residency levels, as well as secondary specialized, vocational, and general education levels. In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers, by Resolution No. 2 dated January 7, 2026, approved the “Rules for Issuing Certificates to Persons Who Have Not Completed Any Stage or Level of Education for Various Reasons” (https://nk.gov.az/az/senedler/qerarlar/muxtelif-sebeblerden-tehsilin-her-hansi-pillesini-9254). According to the approved new rules, certificates issued to persons who have not completed their education for various reasons will be created in the form of an electronic document in accordance with the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Electronic Signature and Electronic Document” through the “Education Centralized Information System” (TMIS) and will be submitted to the applicants’ electronic cabinets located in the Electronic Government Information System (EHIS). In accordance with the rules, the information reflected in the certificates can be submitted and obtained through the EHIS. Information submitted through the electronic system will have the same legal force as documents submitted on paper. It should be noted that the adopted regulatory changes serve to increase transparency in the issuance of state documents on education, simplify administrative procedures, increase citizen satisfaction, and strengthen the institutional foundations of digital management in the education system.

Employees of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) participated in the “Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE)” project. The project was organized by “Baku Design Academy”, Microsoft’s Global Training Partner and the official distributor of “Certiport” in Azerbaijan, and implemented with the support of AzTU’s Institute of Information Technologies and Methodological Support in Education. The goal is to create conditions for teachers to obtain internationally recognized certification, support their professional development, and at the same time strengthen the university’s indicators on the development of academic staff in international ratings. The project serves to improve teachers’ modern pedagogical and digital skills, and to form teaching competencies in accordance with international standards. In total, a 92.5% success rate was achieved in the 56-hour training program (including trainings, webinars, and seminars). At the end of the training program, 62 AzTU teachers successfully passed the international “Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE)” exam and received the international “Microsoft Certified Educator” certificate.

Hajar Aliyeva, Program Manager for Doctoral Studies at the Institute of Higher Education of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), Sharafkhanim Aliyeva, Program Manager for Repeated Higher Education, as well as 2nd year master's students Nazkhanim Shafiyeva, Nihat Ibrahimov, Rial Hummetov, Huseyn Huseynzadeh visited the Additive Manufacturing Center of Gazi University, Turkey, and the Turkish Aerospace Industries Company (TUSASH) as part of an exchange program. During the visit to Gazi University, a comprehensive workshop was organized to systematically strengthen the scientific and research skills of master's students in order to form their scientific thinking, develop their analytical approach and master modern research methodologies, as well as to provide the initial scientific training required for the transition to the doctoral level. In addition, detailed information was provided at the TUSASH Additive Manufacturing Center on the principles of SLM, EBM processes, and CNC/EDM parameters. Within the framework of the visit, seminars were organized on the topics of "Optimization of structural properties of parts manufactured based on the selective laser melting (SLM) process using machine learning" presented by Can Barış, a researcher at the TUSASH Additive Manufacturing Center, "SLM control and parameters" presented by Abdullah Ozchelik, and "Metal powder characteristics and standards" presented by Anıl Emiralıoglu.

The process of employment for graduates of the Faculty of Special Techniques and Technology of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) was carried out. The meeting was attended by a commission consisting of representatives of various factories and enterprises operating under the Ministry of Defense Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as "Azersilah Holding". Within the framework of the process that continued throughout the day, the faculty graduates were involved in individual interviews in their specialties, and their knowledge and skills were assessed. It should be noted that AzTU is the only higher education institution in the region that carries out training of qualified personnel in the field of defense industry. In order to train qualified personnel for the defense industry complex of Azerbaijan, the Faculty of Special Techniques and Technology was established at AzTU by the decision No. 91 of the Cabinet of Ministers dated June 7, 2011.

At the 5th International Physics Olympiad held in Turkmenistan in December 2025, students of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) Aylin Guliyeva won 1st place and Ceylin Topchu received a Special Award. It should be noted that the preparation of students for international competitions in the field of Physics is carried out by the head of the Department of Engineering Physics and Electronics of AzTU, Matanat Mehrabova, and corresponding member of ANAS, Veli Huseynov.

Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) Head of the Department of Mechanical Design, Mechatronics and Industrial Technologies, Professor Isa Khalilov, Director of the Institute of Industrial Design and Technologies, Associate Professor Manafaddin Namazov, Professor of the Department of Special Technologies and Equipment, Rasim Bashirov, Associate Professor of the Department of Mechanical Design, Mechatronics and Industrial Technologies, Imran Yolchuyev, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Mechanical Design, Mechatronics and Industrial Technologies, Shabnam Ismayilova, Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Mechanical Design, Mechatronics and Industrial Technologies, Ilkin Aliyev, paid a visit to Istanbul on an exchange program. As part of the visit, the delegation held meetings at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Yıldız Technical University, the Turkish branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers of the Turkish Union of Engineers and Architects. During the meeting with ITU Rector Professor Hasan Mandal and the faculty of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, an exchange of views was held on conducting joint scientific research, opening certificate programs for young teachers, as well as preparing doctoral students under joint supervision. The AzTU delegation also got acquainted with the laboratories of the Mechanical Engineering, Automation and Control Faculties of ITU. Here, the introduction of the AzTU international scientific journal “Machine Science” and the attraction of high-quality articles to this journal, as well as the prospects of publishing joint articles in scientific journals with a high impact factor were discussed. During the visit to Yıldız Technical University, the AzTU delegation got acquainted with the scientific research work carried out in the Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics departments and discussed future cooperation directions. During the meeting at the Turkish branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, detailed information was provided on the structure of the IEEE system, membership opportunities and the advantages of members' access to scientific, technical and educational materials. During the meeting at the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers of the Turkish Engineers and Architects Association, Turkey's experience in this field was studied in detail. Also, views were exchanged on the possibilities of establishing a Chamber of Mechanical Engineers in Azerbaijan based on the Turkish model.

Hikmet Aliyev, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), and department employees Samir Yusifov, Hikmet Fattayev and Mehti Jamalov visited Bursa, Turkey, on an exchange program. As part of the visit, the delegation held meetings at Bursa Technical University, Bursa Uludag University and Yıldırım Energy Holding. During the meetings, the issues of developing education and research activities in the field of electrical and electronics engineering, implementing joint scientific projects, preparing scientific articles, as well as organizing joint seminars and scientific conferences in the future were discussed. They also exchanged views on university-industry cooperation, organizing student production experience, and opportunities to participate in real industrial projects.

One of Azerbaijan's goals is to become a regional AI hub, an IT center, and I believe that we have the potential to achieve this. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed this idea in an interview with local television channels on January 5. Noting that Azerbaijan is working with partners on the creation of data centers, the head of state said: "We have plans and already implemented projects related to the creation of a cybersecurity center, training of our specialists - we send many of our specialists abroad for training and, at the same time, organize trainings in Azerbaijan - our goal, along with commitment, is to become a hub for AI and IT. The potential is there. There is a strong political will. Of course, we consider American companies to be our main partners."
