Female Students Studying Engineering at AzTU Share Their Experiences

Increasing the participation of women in technical and engineering fields is of great importance in the modern era. In this context, the experiences and perspectives of female students serve as a source of motivation for future generations. Female students studying in various engineering programmes at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) have shared their views on their chosen fields, university experience, and future plans. The students noted that their main reasons for choosing technical specializations were their interest in technology and engineering, as well as their desire to become professional specialists in these fields. They also stated that laboratory and practical classes help them apply theoretical knowledge in practice. At the same time, the female students encouraged other girls who are interested in technical fields not to be discouraged by stereotypes and to pursue their goals with confidence.  Nigar Imanova – Chemical Engineering“One of the main reasons I chose engineering is that I want not only to observe problems but also to take part in solving them. For me, engineering is not only a profession but also a way of thinking. My teacher’s recommendation played an important role in this decision, and I chose the Chemical Engineering programme at the Faculty of Special Equipment and Technologies of Azerbaijan Technical University. My advice to other girls is not to be afraid of the fields that interest them. Believe in yourself and do not accept others’ limits as your own.”  Malak Mammadova – Information Technologies“My name is Malak Mammadova and I study Information Technologies at the Faculty of Information Technologies and Telecommunications of Azerbaijan Technical University. The main reason I chose this field is my interest in technology and engineering. I have always enjoyed acquiring new knowledge and finding solutions to problems. My advice to other girls is that if they are interested in technical fields, they should not hesitate and should confidently pursue their dreams.”  Anabacı Amiraslanova – Process Automation Engineering“Since childhood, I have been someone who works on various projects and shows interest in innovation. Therefore, choosing Process Automation Engineering was not a coincidence. I have always been interested in technology and understanding how systems work. My advice to other girls is not to be afraid of technology and science and to move forward by believing in their potential.”  Havva Guliyeva – Logistics and Transport Technologies Engineering“The main reason I chose logistics is that it is a dynamic and constantly developing field. I wanted to work in a field that requires analytical thinking, flexibility, and problem-solving skills, so I believed logistics was the right choice for me. My advice to other girls is to rely not on stereotypes formed by society but on their own interests and aspirations. They should choose the field they love and move forward confidently.”  Aisha Rashidova – Aerospace Engineering“I have had a strong interest in military aviation since childhood, and at one time becoming a military pilot was one of my biggest dreams. That is why choosing aerospace engineering was not accidental. The design of complex systems, their optimization, and flight mechanics have always fascinated me. My advice to other girls is to base their choices not on stereotypes but on their own interests and goals. Believe in yourself and move confidently toward your ambitions.”  Elza Abbasova – Radio Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering“The main reason I chose Radio Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering is my interest in technology and communication systems. In the modern world, establishing connections between people and the functioning of internet and communication networks are closely related to this field. I chose this specialization because I believe it is important and promising for the future. My advice to other girls is not to be afraid of technical fields and to choose a direction that matches their interests.”  Nigar Mehdiyeva – Transport Engineering“When choosing this specialization, my decision was spontaneous, but it was entirely my own choice and I have never regretted it. One of the main reasons I chose this field was my desire to challenge the common stereotype that ‘this is not a profession for girls.’ Since childhood, I have had a strong interest in vehicles and their construction. My advice to other girls is not to give up on their goals. If they are truly interested in a field, there is no specialization that they cannot succeed in.”  Xumar Nayıbzadə – Computer Science“The main reason I chose Computer Science is that it matches my interests and also offers broad opportunities for the future. I believe this field is promising both for professional development and career opportunities. My advice to other girls is not to move away from their chosen path and goals. One should not be afraid of failures, because every experience makes a person stronger and creates new opportunities.”  Fatima Heydarli – Environmental Engineering“My main goal in choosing this specialization is to become one of the well-known environmental specialists in the future and to continue my education abroad. Developing in this field and contributing to environmental protection is very important to me. Being a woman in engineering also demonstrates that women work in technical and scientific fields and contribute to technological development. I do not agree with stereotypes suggesting otherwise, because they are simply not true.”  Zarifa Aliyeva – Logistics and Transport Technologies Engineering“I chose this specialization because it is a promising and dynamic field. Although I had some doubts at first, the support of my family and my own interest motivated me even more. For me, being a woman in engineering means being strong and determined. My advice to other girls is to believe in themselves and not to be afraid of their choices.”  Jale Suleymanova – Computer Engineering“Since my school years, I have had a great interest in computer science. Working with algorithms and graphs was always fascinating for me. Through this process, I realized that I see myself in this field and therefore chose Computer Engineering. My message to other girls is that despite stereotypes, women are strong and can achieve great success when they set clear goals.”  Roza Almadətli – Chemical Engineering“The main reason I chose Chemical Engineering is my interest in chemistry. When selecting the first group of specializations, I already had Chemical Engineering in mind. I believed that this field suits me and also has strong future prospects and prestige. Therefore, I chose Chemical Engineering and I have never regretted this decision.”  You can read the full interviews below.

Green areas are being increased within the territory of Azerbaijan Technical University

Azerbaijan Technical University is expanding the application of SDG 15 - Life on Earth principles on campus in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. The goal is to protect terrestrial ecosystems, support biodiversity and strengthen green infrastructure. In recent years, the work carried out at the university towards traffic management and promotion of micromobility has created a real opportunity to increase green zones. As a result of reducing parking areas from 2000 m² to 1800 m², the areas freed up have been transformed into green belts. This step contributes to preventing land degradation, reducing carbon emissions and creating a healthier ecological environment on campus. The 1,700-meter bicycle path created between the university and the dormitory, the increased scooter infrastructure and the expanded pedestrian zones serve to reduce car use and maintain the ecological balance. The use of alternative means of transportation by hundreds of students and employees throughout the day strengthens the sustainability indicators of the campus. In the future, it is planned to expand the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, further optimize parking and create additional green areas. With these initiatives, Azerbaijan Technical University is not only an educational space, but also shaping a sustainable campus model where biodiversity is protected and ecosystems are supported.
