AzTU's Institute of Biomedical Engineering studies European experience in biotechnology and robotics

An online meeting was held on expanding academic cooperation opportunities between the employees of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) and European specialists in the field of biotechnology and robotics. The meeting was attended by Professor Nuran Abdullayev, Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Javid Abbasli, Senior Researcher of the Institute, and Sevinj Aliyeva, Researcher. During the discussions, high-precision robotic systems used in minimally invasive medical interventions, their innovative architectures, real-time control solutions, and artificial intelligence integration capabilities were presented. The aforementioned technologies are considered to be innovative approaches that are at the forefront of modern medical science and have a wide application area in the technological development ecosystem of Europe. During the meeting, new research directions based on artificial intelligence, implementation of joint projects, and initial cooperation opportunities for the adaptation of this type of robotic technologies in Azerbaijan were also discussed in detail in the AI-MED LAB laboratory operating under the Institute of Biomedical Engineering. It should be noted that the Institute of Biomedical Engineering has set as a priority the expansion of international scientific relations, the transfer of advanced technologies to our country, and the creation of new opportunities for young researchers through such meetings.

On June 18, 2025, the Rector of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) Vilayat Valiyev participated as a speaker in the international panel titled “Research and Innovation to Support Transition to a Circular Economy.” The event was held within the framework of the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2025 and focused on discussions about research and innovation aimed at advancing the circular economy. AzTU hosted the first international "Falling Walls Lab" competition in Azerbaijan

The “Falling Walls Lab” international competition was organized at AzTU by the joint organization of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The event was realized with the joint support of DAAD lecturer Claudio Kasperl working at AzTU and AzTU employees. The main goal of the project, organized in about 60 countries, is to promote exceptional creative ideas and unite promising young scientists and students from all fields of science on a globally recognized platform. The competition participants are given the opportunity to present their research, business models or initiatives to their peers, a high-level jury and the general public. Opening the final event of the “Falling Walls Lab” international competition in Azerbaijan with an introductory speech, AzTU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Professor Nurali Yusifbeyli welcomed the participants and informed them about the importance of the competition. He noted that such international competitions are opportunities for Azerbaijani researchers to reveal all their creative potential. He expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the German Academic Exchange Service and the German Embassy in Azerbaijan for this opportunity. Claudio Kasperl said that this year, the “Falling Walls Lab” competition was announced open to individual researchers and students from Azerbaijan for the first time. A total of 80 project ideas were submitted to the competition, and online training on presentation skills (pitching) was first conducted for the participants whose candidacy was approved. 19 project authors, consisting of young researchers from AzTU, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Baku Higher Oil School, Mingachevir State University, Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, UFAZ, and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, qualified for the final stage and presented their ideas for 3 minutes at the final event held at AzTU. Then, Heiko Schwarz, Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Azerbaijan, Gebhard Reul, Head of the Regional Office of the German Academic Exchange Service in Tbilisi, and Nargis Wieck, Executive Director of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce, made speeches and wished success to the participants of the competition. The projects of the candidates who participated in the final stage of the competition were evaluated by a jury consisting of Azerbaijani higher education institutions, scientific research institutes and industrial enterprises. The evaluation was carried out based on criteria such as the originality, innovation and usefulness of the project idea to the field, the relevance of the project idea and its impact on the target audience, and the level of presentation of the project. Zarifa Asadullayeva, a researcher representing the Baku Higher Oil School, was selected as the winner of the competition for Azerbaijan with her project “Breaking Walls of Unsustainable Construction”. The winning project involves the development of bioactive hydrogel capsules that increase the longevity of buildings, reduce their repair costs and reduce CO2 emissions by enabling concrete to self-heal. The winning participant will represent Azerbaijan with her project at the grand finale of the competition to be held in Berlin on November 6, 2025.

From June 16 to 19, 2025, Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) is proudly representing itself at the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) held in Istanbul. Representatives of Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, Germany, visited AzTU

Professor Michael Langenbaan, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences in Germany, and the faculty staff met with Professor Nurali Yusifbayli, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU). AzTU employees also attended the meeting. Vice-Rector Nurali Yusifbayli provided the guests with detailed information about the work done at the university in the field of science and research, the implemented dual diploma programs and projects, as well as the innovations brought by AzTU to the education sector in Azerbaijan. The final round of the “Azercell Cup 2025” programming competition was held at AzTU

The final round of the “Azercell CUP 2025” programming competition was held at AzTU with the joint organization of “Azercell Telecom” LLC, the Institute of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the support of the Institute of Information Technologies and Methodological Support in Education of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU). 162 students participated in the competition. In the final round, the participants were given the task of designing solutions to 5 algorithmic problems in C++ and Python programming languages ​​within 3 hours and testing them through an automatic evaluation system on the https://codeany.org/ portal. It should be noted that 442 students representing grades 6-7 of secondary schools from different regions of Azerbaijan participated in the qualification stage of the competition held in an online format on April 5, and 216 of them qualified for the semi-final stage. 162 students who showed the best results in the semi-final stage held in an online format on May 3 advanced to the final stage. The “Azercell Cup” competition has been held since 2021. The competition aims to identify talented students, develop their scientific potential, and ensure their participation in various international Olympiads and competitions.

AzTU students got acquainted with the production process at the enterprise of the Ministry of Defense Industry

On June 17, the Ministry of Defense Industry (MoD) organized an info tour to one of the ministry's institutions for first-year students of the Faculty of Special Equipment and Technology of the Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU). About 20 students participated in the info tour. First, the participants visited the monument to the founder and architect of the modern Azerbaijani state, the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, erected on the territory of the institution, and observed a minute of silence in memory of the Great Leader and our martyrs who gave their lives for the Motherland. The students were given detailed information about the achievements in the field of defense industry in our country and the development of our national military industrial potential under the leadership of the worthy successor of the National Leader, President, Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. It was noted that various types of weapons, ammunition and technical equipment produced at the MND's institutions made a significant contribution to achieving the glorious Victory by increasing the efficiency of combat operations during the Patriotic War. A Republican scientific conference dedicated to June 15 - National Salvation Day - was held at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) within the framework of the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty". The conference was dedicated to the ideas of statehood of Azerbaijan, legal and political stability and the development of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan.
