Rector: Information security has serious economic consequences

Information security is not merely a technological issue; it also has grave economic implications, Vilayat Valiyev, the rector of Azerbaijan Technical University, said at the opening ceremony of the training titled "New cyber defense methods supported by artificial intelligence in wireless communication" held in Baku. Valiyev emphasized that information security is one of the crucial elements ensuring sustainable economic development. He stated, "As technology advances, it demands the introduction of new methods of combat. In such instances, artificial intelligence-based technologies provide critical insights into identifying threats and forecasting their future trajectories." The rector highlighted the increasing role of universities and research centers in this domain, stressing the necessity for more robust collaboration with industries and enterprises. He believes that Azerbaijan should significantly enhance its personnel training in information security, particularly at the doctoral level, to ensure that educators are well-equipped to deliver more rigorous programs. Valiyev also underscored the importance of conducting scientific research across all spheres, leading to the formation of critical infrastructure in various industrial sectors, especially in energy and telecommunications. He noted the significance of auditing, studying technological issues, and relevant standards in this context. Emphasizing the importance of bringing together interested parties to form a cybersecurity ecosystem in Azerbaijan, the rector highlighted the need for developing normative legal documents and addressing practical matters in this direction.

Training program launched on "New cyber defense techniques supported by artificial intelligence in wireless communications"

From October 15 to 18, the training on "New cyber defense methods supported by artificial intelligence for wireless communication", a joint project of the State Service of Special Communication and Information Security of the Republic of Azerbaijan with Istanbul Technical University, will be held in the capital. At the opening ceremony of the training program, the head of the Special Communications and Information Security State Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Lieutenant General Ilgar Musayev, welcomed the participants and said that in the program to be held in four days, it is planned to hold high-level trainings by scientists of a number of prestigious universities of Turkey to selected experts from state institutions and faculty members leaving higher education institutions. According to him, information security is one of the important elements that ensure sustainable economic development. "The development of technologies requires the development of new methods of struggle. At such a moment, artificial intelligence-based technologies reveal serious issues related to the identification of threats and their future prediction. This requires the formation and determination of the specifics of the attacks, as well as the emergence of sufficiently new methods of combating them.In this direction, the role of universities and research centers is increasing enough, the need for their more serious cooperation with industry and enterprises emerges," the rector noted.  Head of TUBITAK BILGEM Center, Ali Gorchin, emphasized the importance of cooperation in new cyber defense methods supported by artificial intelligence for wireless communication, and noted its important role in the development of cyber products based on artificial intelligence in the future.  In the training program"Basics of cryptography and network security", "Cybersecurity Threats in Wireless Channels", Cyber-attacks at the physical level”, "New Cyber Defense Strategies in Wireless Infrastructures" and "Security of wireless networks, including 5G networks" will be covered. The training will provide an exchange of knowledge, experience and innovative solutions in the field of cyber defense with the support of artificial intelligence. It should be noted that the project was approved by NATO's Science for Peace and Security program.

Scientists of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) have been declared the winners of the "Main Grant Competition - 2024" dedicated to the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World" of the Azerbaijan Science Foundation. "Safety of Road Traffic - 2" project held at AzTU

With the financial support of the Youth Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), Azerbaijan Student Youth Organizations Union (ASYOU), AzTU Student Youth Organization (SYO) as part of the "Make the Idea Real 2023" Youth Individual Projects Grant Competition "Traffic Safety - 2" project was implemented. More than 200 students participated in the two-day project. Students were given extensive information about traffic rules, traffic accidents that have occurred in recent years, and their main causes. The participants were trained by Allahverdi Sharifov, dean of the Faculty of Transport and Logistics of AzTU, and an educational video about road traffic safety was shown to the students. Seminar Held at AzTU Within the Framework of the AZTAF Program

As part of the Azerbaijan Agile Technical Assistance Framework (AZTAF), funded by the European Union and implemented by the World Bank, a seminar aimed at promoting gender balance in technical education and careers in Azerbaijan was held at Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) The seminar sought to contribute to Azerbaijan’s economic development by increasing women’s participation in technical fields and reducing gender inequality in the labor market. The event was attended by university faculty members and career advisors.
