A contract has been signed between Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) and the German Agency for the Accreditation of Higher Education (AQAS) for the international accreditation of 20 AzTU programs. The agreement stipulates that, in 2024-2025, AQAS will carry out the international accreditation process for AzTU’s bachelor’s (10 programs) and master’s (10 programs) degrees. During the signing ceremony, AzTU Rector Professor Vilayat Valiyev provided an overview of the university and emphasized the importance of international program accreditation. He also discussed the discussions held with AQAS in collaboration with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Science and Education’s Quality Assurance Agency (TKTA) over the past year. The rector highlighted that the international accreditation of AzTU’s programs is part of the implementation of the “State Program on Increasing the International Competitiveness of the Higher Education System in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2019-2023,” the “2022-2026 Social and Economic Development Strategy,” and AzTU’s Development Strategy for the period up to 2030. He stressed that international accreditation would enhance AzTU’s recognition on a global scale and facilitate the admission of more international students. Professor Mentz, the Chairman of AQAS’s Board, expressed the significance of the relationship with AzTU and provided information on future cooperation and the accreditation process. Details about the accreditation schedule and other related matters were also discussed during the meeting. Ilham Humbətov, a member of the TKTA Board and Director of the Quality Assurance Department, also participated in the signing ceremony. He emphasized the importance of the contract between AzTU and AQAS in terms of the global evaluation and recognition of Azerbaijan’s higher education system. He congratulated both parties and wished them success, assuring that TKTA would provide the necessary support to both AzTU and AQAS.
