Within the framework of the cooperation agreement signed between Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) and Dithari Technologies, the DISC (Digital Innovation, Sustainability & Circularity) Innovation and Sustainability Laboratory has been launched at AzTU. The primary goal of establishing the laboratory is to promote digital innovation, circular economy practices, and sustainable IT solutions, while providing an accessible and open practical environment for students, faculty members, and the wider professional community.

The new laboratory offers opportunities for education and research in electronic waste reduction, IT equipment refurbishment and reuse, green technologies, and sustainable production models. The DISC center will serve as an open platform not only for AzTU students and staff but also for specialists and interested members of the public working in relevant fields.

AzTU leadership emphasized that the launch of the laboratory strengthens the university’s strategy on sustainable development and digital transformation, enhances students’ practical skills, and expands cooperation between academia and industry. Dithari Technologies highlighted that this initiative will contribute to the growth of environmentally responsible innovation in the country.

The activities of the DISC Laboratory align with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
• SDG 4 – Quality Education: Innovative training and practical learning opportunities for students.
• SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: Development and application of new technological solutions.
• SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production: Reduction of electronic waste and promotion of circular IT models.
• SDG 13 – Climate Action: Encouraging green approaches and environmental responsibility.

The laboratory will carry out the following activities:
• Practical workshops on electronic waste recycling and equipment refurbishment;
• Educational and research projects on circular IT and sustainable technologies;
• Innovation and incubation support for student and startup teams;
• Joint pilot projects and seminars with industry partners;
• Thematic meetings and training sessions for professionals and the broader community.
