The next scientific article of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) entitled “From Bedside to Bot-Side: Artificial Intelligence in Emergency Appendicitis Management” was published in the journal “Life” indexed in international databases together with researchers from different European countries.
The article comparatively investigated the effectiveness of artificial intelligence technologies (GPT-4.5, DeepSeek R1 and machine learning models) in the diagnosis of appendicitis and surgical decision-making in patients presenting to the emergency department with pain.
Clinical, laboratory and radiological indicators of patients were analyzed within the framework of a multicenter retrospective study conducted in different centers in Germany, as well as at AzTU. The results showed that artificial intelligence-based approaches demonstrate a high level of consistency with the decisions of surgeons with years of experience and can support doctors in the future, especially in resource-limited healthcare environments.
This successful research once again confirms both the potential for international collaboration at AzTU's Institute of Biomedical Engineering and the scientific contributions of university scientists in the field of artificial intelligence and biomedical engineering.
