A meeting was held at the Azerbaijan Metrology Institute (AzMI), which operates under the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control, with Associate Professor Gültekin Coşkun, the head of the National Ground Safety Institute (UZGE) operating in the technopark of Sivas Cumhuriyet University in Türkiye.

The meeting was attended by the Rector of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), Vilayat Valiyev, the Vice-Rector of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan University (TAU), Mehmet Şimşir, as well as representatives of the Azerbaijan Institute of Standardization (AZSTAND).

During the meeting, information was provided about AzMI’s areas of activity, service sectors, measurement and calibration capabilities, existing calibration and verification laboratories, as well as newly established reference laboratories.

Later, UZGE's head, Gültekin Coşkun, spoke about the development of applied engineering and safety standards, methods for measuring the frequency of slippage on indoor floors in both the public and private sectors, the equipment used, and the international standards considered in measurements.

As part of the discussions, the implementation of European and Turkish standards regarding pedestrian infrastructure safety was addressed, including:

  • EN 16165: “Determination of slip resistance of pedestrian surfaces – Assessment methods”
  • TS 13882: “Classification rules for pedestrian surfaces – General requirements and assessment methods”
  • EN 14231:2003: “Natural stone test methods – Determination of slip resistance using a pendulum test”
  • EN 13036-4:2011: “Road and airfield surface characteristics – Test methods – Part 4: Measurement of slip/skid resistance using a pendulum test”

Additionally, discussions were held on allowing AzTU and TAU students to conduct scientific research using AzMI’s laboratories, preparing new projects in the field of metrology, and expanding cooperation in this area.

In conclusion, the parties reviewed mutual cooperation opportunities and the application of relevant international experience in Azerbaijan.
