The closing and award ceremony of the “Victory Tournament” sports competition was held, organized jointly by the Trade Union Committee of Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), the Student Trade Union Committee (STUC), and the Sports Club. The primary aim of the tournament was to promote the health of union members and further strengthen the bonds of friendship between students and staff.
The closing ceremony of the tournament, held on November 8 in honor of Victory Day, began with a minute of silence to pay tribute to the memory of the brave sons and daughters of the homeland who gave their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our lands. This was followed by the playing of the Azerbaijani national anthem.
Subsequently, the Vice Rector for Financial and Economic Affairs of AzTU, Rashad Aliyev, and the Deputy Chairman of the Republican Committee of the Azerbaijan Education Workers’ Free Trade Union, Mirza Cafarzade, spoke about the historical significance of Victory Day, the importance of our historic victory, the upbringing of the younger generation in the spirit of nationalism, and the efforts made to protect the health of both staff and students.
The award ceremony followed shortly after. It is important to note that over 250 staff members of AzTU competed in the tournament across five sports (futsal, volleyball, chess, checkers, and table tennis), while the students participated in seven sports (table tennis, chess, football, volleyball, basketball, freestyle wrestling, and checkers).
The winners were awarded diplomas, medals, trophies, and valuable gifts by AzTU, the Trade Union Committee (HİK), and the Student Trade Union Committee (THİK).
In the overall team standings of the “Victory Tournament” for staff, the winners were:
1st place – Finance and Supply Department
2nd place – Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics
3rd place – Faculty of Transportation and Logistics.
In the overall team standings for students, the winners were:
1st place – Faculty of Special Techniques and Technologies
2nd place – Faculty of Information and Telecommunications Technologies
3rd place – Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics.
